Dempsey the Diabetic Superhero

Short Film (2017)

Writer / Director

Meet Dempsey Foxson — a spunky, 10-year-old competitive gymnast who refuses to let her Type 1 Diabetes affect her dreams.

Made in association with American Diabetes Association.

This was s project Kendall made her senior year of Chapman in a documentary course called Community Voices, which is where students are paired with an organization to find, develop, and produce a social issue documentary short film. Kendall discovered Dempsey Foxson and her amazing family through the ADA, and was able to spend almost an entire semester with the Foxsons to learn about and document Dempsey’s life as a competitive gymnast with Type 1 Diabetes. It was an incredibly rewarding experience and has made Kendall want to find more documentary projects to be a part of in the future.
